Using Daily Car Insurance

Daily car insurance is a form of short term insurance.  It is primarily used if a car owner allows another to use the car for a short time and usually for a short distance.  For instance, if a sibling or child will use the car for a day, the car owner may want to get insurance since this driver may not be under his or her existing insurance policy.

A person may look into this type of insurance policy if he or she will need to have a driver in case of injury or some other illness that may prevent the car owner from driving.  If a car owner is traveling overseas and having a car shipped over, he or she may also look into other short term policies like monthly car insurance.

Who Qualifies for Daily Car Insurance?

Agencies that offer this type of insurance may have special requirements for its potential policy holders.  For example, they may require that the policy holder have had a valid license for one year or more.  There may also be age restrictions requiring the holder of the policy and the additional driver to be at least 18 or 21.  There could also be a maximum age limit.  Furthermore, a temporary policy may require its holder to have a relatively clean driving record with little to no penalties as well as no previous claims.

What Does Daily Car Insurance Cover?

A temporary insurance policy may have only limited coverage.  These policies generally last from one to 28 days.    However, they may be customized to fit individuals, small businesses or large business groups.  There are various types of policies for different needs such as courtesy insurance that covers a car when the primary vehicle is in repair.  Drive away insurance can cover a vehicle that is newly purchased.  A temporary additional driver policy allows a family member or friend to drive the vehicle insured while temporary vehicle insurance places a policy on an additional vehicle.  Test drive insurance covers a policy holder looking to purchase a new vehicle.

These policies can cover a range of needs such as accident recovery and repair or damage in case of an accident.  They may also provide liability against damage and injury or death in the event of an accident.  Coverage may also extend to loss of a vehicle due to fire, theft or vandalism.  There may also be special policies for vehicles such as vans and special interest groups such as non-profits or other services that do not carry passengers for profit.  However, vehicles may need to have a minimum market value before they can be insured temporarily.  A driver could also look into other special circumstances and find other policies such as female car insurance.

A temporary insurance policy can be handy and alleviate extra worries that may arise in special circumstances such as illness.  A car owner can rest assured that his or her vehicle and an additional driver are covered in case the need arises.
