What You Should Know About Purchasing a Used Volkswagen Golf

Buying a used car can be a lot more of a challenge than buying a new one.  While purchasing a new VW golf car is naturally more expensive than purchasing one used, the buyer of a new car has the guarantee that the car will be in good running order and a warranty in case anything goes wrong.  The cost of a used Volkswagen golf for sale depends on many factors such as the age and condition of the car, what model it is, how much mileage it has, what mechanical problems it has had, whether it has extra amenities such as GPS navigation, and many other factors.  You would also need to factor in the cost of car insurance; again, the price of this varies depending on what particular insurance policy you take out.

Where to Find Used Volkswagen Golf Cars for Sale:

You can buy a used VW golf for sale either at a used cars dealer or from an individual seller.  If you are looking for dealership that sells used vehicles, then check the yellow pages or the internet to find ones that operate in your city or metropolitan area.  If you search the internet, type in the phrase 'used cars Volkswagen golf', followed by the name of your city, it will help find cars near you.  It is important that your search is specific, as not all used car lots sell this particular model of car.

In many cases, it can be to your advantage to purchase a used car from an individual.  Check the craigslist for your city or area and your hometown newspaper classifieds to find individual sellers that may be offering this particular type of car for sale.  When you purchase a car from an individual, you can deal with the person one and one and the price is often negotiable, within reason.  However, if you are hoping to get financing to purchase the VW golf, you may need to go through a dealer that offers such a service.  You may also be unable to find the particular model of Volkswagen golf you want to purchase for sale outside of a dealership.

What to Look Out for When Purchasing a Used Volkswagen Golf:

When purchasing a used car, there are a number of things that you should watch out for.  What you want to avoid is purchasing a car and then having to make expensive repairs to it a short while later or worse yet, finding out that the car is on its last leg shortly after buying it.  Following are some things you should look out for when purchasing a used car, no matter what model or type of car it is:

 - Always ask to take the car out for a test drive.  If the seller is not willing to allow this, do not purchase the car.  As you drive the car, listen out for odd noises from the engine and pay attention to how the car runs.  If you have questions about the condition of the motor, or if the car does not sound like it is running well, then phone a mechanic and ask them for advice.  A good mechanic should be able to give you a general idea of what certain problems or noises mean.

 - Checking to see how much mileage the car has is always important.  Cars only run well for a certain length of time, after which they start having problems.  Even if the previous owner has taken good care of the vehicle, if the car has high mileage, then you may want to reconsider purchasing it.

 - If you intend to purchase the car from a dealer, it is important to be aware of the fact that not all of them are honest.  Sadly, there are unscrupulous car dealers in the business and the used cars for sale at such lots may not be in good running order, or may need expensive repairs done.  If you have any friends, relatives or colleagues in your city who have bought a used car from a local dealership and are happy with the purchase, ask them for the name of the dealership.  This is one of the best ways of finding an honest dealership. You can also do an internet search on a particular dealership and see what previous customers have had to say about it.  While it is unrealistic to expect any business to receive 100% positive reviews, beware of purchasing a car from a car lot that has received many bad reviews.
